Within the ES, we consist of two program models; our single gender program SELECT (Students-Electing-Leadership-Education-Character and Transformation) and our co education program, CHOSEN (Co ED-Honorable-Students-Electing-Nobility). Students within the SELECT program are offered the opportunity to participate in the following after school extracurricular activities: Yoga, Taekwondo, Tennis, Chess, Arts & Crafts and Golf. Students within the CHOSEN program will also have the opportunity to participate in afterschool programs that will strengthen their social and academic skills.
The Marion P. Thomas Charter School (MPTCS) is the largest independently-operated free public charter school in Newark, NJ. MPTCS was established in 1999 by a group of individuals who were born and raised in Newark and wanted to provide the best possible educational experience for the next generation of Newarkers. The school is one of the only minority-led charter schools in Newark, reflecting both its student population and the community it serves. Since 1999, MPTCS has grown from four classrooms to four campuses and now serves more than 1,300 students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
